
U-M to Open Season With Wolverine Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team will open its 2024 season at home, hosting the Wolverine Invitational on Saturday (Jan. 13) at the U-M Indoor Track Building. Field events are slated to begin at 10 a.m., while the running events will begin at 11 a.m.
Notes
• U-M will open 2024 as the reigning Big Ten Indoor Champion, after claiming the crown for the first time since 2016.
• The Wolverines earned five event titles, three individual and two relay, setting four school records and one facility record at the 2023 Big Ten Indoor Championships. The distance medley relay team of Anna Juul, Ziyah Holman, Aurora Rynda and Sam Tran earned the Big Ten title on the first day of the championships, with Holman (400-meter dash), Rynda (600-meter run) and Riley Ammenhauser (triple jump) winning individual titles. Sophie Isom, Savannah Sutherland, Nikki Stephens and Holman set the school 4x400-meter relay on the way to the Big Ten title.
• Holman, Sutherland, Rynda and Aasia Laurencin qualified for the NCAA Championships as individuals, while Isom, Sutherland, Stephens and Holman represented U-M at NCAAs in the 4x400-meter relay.
• Sutherland finished seventh in the 400, earning first team All-America honors and broke the Canadian indoor 400-meter record with a time of 51.60 seconds. Rynda also earned first team All-America status, placing eighth in the 800-meter run.
• Michigan returns a strong lineup in both the track and field events, including Tran, Ammenhauser, Isom, Sutherland and Laurencin. Also returning is sprinter BreeAna Bates, the 60-meter dash program record holder, and Corinne Jemison, who holds the U-M No. 2 shot put mark.
• Michigan added four transfers in Susan Bansbach (sprints), Maria Deaviz (throws), Noelani Phillips (sprints) and Tilly Simpson (distance).
• Eleven freshmen will gear up for their first season in maize and blue.
