
Michigan Women Strong in Season-Opening Wolverine Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team opened the 2024 indoor season at the Wolverine Invitational on Saturday (Jan. 13) with strong performances all around.
Aasia Laurencin posted the No. 13 NCAA time in 60-meter hurdles, finishing second in the finals in 8.24 seconds. She set a personal best in the 60-meter dash preliminaries (7.55), before finishing sixth in the finals.
Sidney Green had an impressive U-M debut, setting the program record in the 300 meters (38.36) and finishing third. Trinity Henderson finished fourth with a career-best time of 38.74.
Amber Gall came in second in the 600-meter run, setting a personal best with a time of 1:32.58. Hannah Pricco finished in fifth (1:33.95) while Lucy Petee finished in eighth (1:36.18).
The Maize and Blue went 2-3 in the 800-meter run, with transfer Penelopea Gordon earning a second-place finish (2:08.02) and Cassie Kearney setting a personal-best time of 2:08.40 to finish in third.
Gabrielle Newman won the high jump, clearing 1.68m (5 feet, 5 inches) and tying her personal best. In the pole vault, Cate Visscher cleared 3.80m (12 feet, 5.5 inches) to finish in third while freshman Kaitlin McHale cleared 3.65m (11 feet, 11.75 inches) to come in fourth.
Corinne Jemison posted the No. 15 shot put mark (16.18m; 53 feet, 1 inch) in the NCAA to come in second. Trinity Franklin finished in fourth place with a mark of 15.09m (49 feet, 6.25 inches).
The Maize and Blue will remain at home for its next meet when they host the Simmons-Harvey Invitational next Saturday (Jan. 20) at 9 a.m. at the U-M Indoor Track Building.
