
Michigan Men to Host Indiana, Travel to Ohio State to Start 2024

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 17-ranked University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team (1-1, 0-1 Big Ten) will host No. 5 Indiana (4-0, 0-0 Big Ten) for Senior Day at noon on Friday (Jan. 19) at Canham Natatorium before traveling to Columbus, Ohio, to take on No. 14 Ohio State (5-0, 0-0 Big Ten) on Saturday (Jan. 20) at noon.
Notes
• The Wolverines return to action after a two-month break from team competition. Last time out, U-M placed fifth with a point total of 495.5.
• This weekend will mark the 87th all-time meeting between Michigan and Indiana, and the Maize and Blue will clash with Ohio State for the 89th time in program history. Michigan holds a 47-36-3 all-time series lead over the Hoosiers and a 73-13-2 advantage over the Buckeyes.
• Bence Szabados has put together a strong senior season, leading the Big Ten in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 19.22 and sitting fifth in the 100-yard freestyle with a mark of 42.57. Both times were set at the Georgia Invitational in November.
• Gal Groumi continues to excel in the butterfly events, pacing the conference in 50-, 100- and 200-yard events. Groumi's 100- and 200-yard times of 44.83 seconds and 1:40.54, respectively, also check in at fifth in the nation. Groumi also has displayed versatility, posting a time of 1:42.67 in the 200-yard individual medley at the Georgia Invitational which leads the Big Ten.
• Jack Wilkening has established himself in the backstroke, leading the conference in the 50-yard sprint and sitting in the top three in the 100- and 200-yard races. Wilkening's 100 back time of 45.84 ranks third in Michigan program history.
• A steady sophomore, Eitan Ben-Shitrit owns top-five times in the Big Ten in the 200-yard freestyle and 200- and 400-yard IM races.
• In the dive well, Cameron Gammage leads the way for U-M, ranking fourth in the conference in the one-meter dive, registering a score of 366.30 at the Wisconsin Tri-Meet in October.
• Following the conference matchups this weekend, the Wolverines will return to Canham on Feb. 17 for the First Chance Meet.
