
Michigan Comes Up Short Against No. 5 Indiana on Senior Day

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 17-ranked University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team fell to No. 5-ranked Indiana 182-118 on Friday (Jan. 19) inside Canham Natorium on Senior Day.
U-M posted strong results in the 1,000-yard freestyle as Connor Hunt and Ryan Hume finished first and second with times of 9:15.89 and 9:21.42, respectively.
Jack Wilkening logged a time of 47.28 seconds to finish second in the 100-yard backstroke, while Brendan Fitzpatrick took third in the 100-yard breaststroke with a mark of 55.05.
The Wolverines had a solid showing in the 200-yard butterfly as Tyler Ray finished second, touching the wall at 1:45.05. Freshman Colin Geer secured third, registering a time of 1:47.62.
Sprint specialist Bence Szabados took care of business by winning the 50 free with a time of 19.73. Szabados also grabbed third in the 100 free with a mark of 43.83.
Wilkening tallied another second-place result, this time in the 200-yard backstroke as he logged a time of 1:46.99.
In the second half of the meet, the Maize and Blue continued to dominate in the distance races, sweeping the top three spots in the 500 free. Hunt took his second win of the day with a time of 4:30.07. Jack Luken and Ryan Healy finished second and third with times of 4:33.20 and 4:34.96, respectively.
Ray picked up a victory in the 100 fly with a time of 46.60, and Gal Groumi posted a mark of 47.56 to capture third.
Groumi added a second-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley with a mark of 1:48.42, while Ansel Froass touched the wall at 1:49.55 to take third.
Over in the dive well, Cameron Gammage finished second in the one-meter dive, posting a score of 373.05.
Michigan will travel to Columbus, Ohio, for the back half of its back-to-back meets as it takes on No. 14 Ohio State on Saturday (Jan. 20) at noon.
