ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Squaring off against its first ranked foe this season, the University of Michigan men's basketball team (7-10, 2-4 Big Ten) hosts No. 14 Illinois (12-4, 3-2 Big Ten) in a White Out on Thursday (Jan. 18) at Crisler Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:40 p.m., and the game will broadcast live on FS1.
Notes
• Michigan's game with No. 14 Illinois is the first against a top-25 foe this season and is the first of two regular-season meetings. The Wolverines will travel to Champaign on Tuesday, Feb. 13 in a return game at the State Farm Center.
• U-M holds an 85-93 all-time record against Illinois. The Wolverines hold a 52-31 record in Ann Arbor, but have dropped their last three at Crisler.
• In his last eight games, Terrance Williams II has more than half (23) of his season total (40) of three-pointers (40). In seven of those eight games, he has drained three-plus, including a career-best five against Ohio State (Jan. 15). Williams, who is averaging a career-best 12.9 points per game, has 14 double-figure scoring games, surpassing his first three seasons combined (10). Over his last five games, he has two 20-plus point games, including a career-best 24 at Penn State (Jan. 7) and 20 against McNeese (Dec. 29).
• Recently, Olivier Nkamhoua surpassed 1,000 points with 18 at Maryland (Jan. 11). The feat adds to his milestones met during his graduate season as he surpassed 125 games (129) and 500 rebounds (555). He also has 1,023 career points. Nkamhoua has produced 16-of-17 games scoring not only in double figures but grabbing five-plus rebounds. Overall, he is averaging career bests for points (17.1) and rebounds (7.5).
• Over his last seven games, Tarris Reed Jr., has shot 75 percent (21-for-28) at the free-throw line. This is a vast difference from his first nine games when he was at 36 percent (9-for-25). Overall, he has improved to a 56.6 percentage. Reed also leads U-M with 42 offensive rebounds (2.5 per game) and is second on the team in total rebounds, averaging 6.4 per game.
• Nimari Burnett grabbed a career-best 10 rebounds against Ohio State (Jan. 15), marking his 10th game this season of five-plus. With his first double-digit board game, he is averaging 4.8 per a contest, doubling his prior best of two (2022-23 at Alabama). His 81 total rebounds this season are more than his three prior seasons combined (75).
• With four assists against Ohio State (Jan. 15), Dug McDaniel surpassed 200 in his career. He leads U-M with five per game. He added his 15th double-figure scoring game against the Buckeyes and leads U-M with 17.9 points per game -- a nine-point increase from his freshman season.
• Will Tschetter continues to shoot above 60 percent from long range (63 percent; 17-for-27). He has made a three-pointer in 13 games, with a career-best four against Youngstown State (Nov. 10).
