LINCOLN, Neb. -- The No. 10-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team earned its second Big Ten Conference win of the season with a 196.900-195.275 victory over No. 22 Nebraska on Saturday (Jan. 27) at the DeVaney Center.
The Wolverines swept the event titles as graduate student Sierra Brooks won the uneven bars, balance beam, floor exercise and all-around titles, Reyna Guggino won her first vault title of the season on vault and Naomi Morrison tied Brooks for the floor title with matching 9.925s. Brooks went 39.575 in the all-around to win her second title of the season.
As a team, Michigan went 49.000 or better on three events with a 49.450 on floor, 49.300 on beam and a 49.175 on the uneven bars.
Michigan began on uneven bars, and Morrison, Gabby Wilson and Carly Bauman earned 9.825s, and Brooks anchored the opening rotation with a 9.900 and a stuck landing. The Wolverines headed into the second rotation leading Nebraska 49.175-49.000.
Guggino stuck her landing to open up the second rotation, vault, and won the event with a 9.900, while Brooks earned a 9.825 and Morrison had a 9.800 as U-M led the Cornhuskers 98.150-97.900 at the halfway point.
The floor lineup did work as Bauman started the event with a 9.900 and Morrison and Brooks earned back-to-back 9.925s to pace Michigan to a 49.450 in the third event. U-M took a comfortable 147.600-146.225 advantage into the final rotation.
Guggino and Bauman earned 9.875s in the final rotation and Brooks anchored with a 9.925 to earn her third event title of the day and capture the all-around title as U-M went on to a 196.900-195.275 victory over the Cornhuskers.
Michigan returns to Crisler Center next Sunday (Feb. 4) when it will Maize Out Michigan State at 4 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.
