ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan volleyball team (14-3, 4-2 Big Ten) will host two top teams in the Big Ten Conference at Crisler Center. The Wolverines will open the weekend against Washington (13-3, 3-3 Big Ten) on Dollar Day at 7 p.m. Friday (Oct. 18) before facing No. 9 Wisconsin (11-4, 5-1 Big Ten) for their Pink Match at 7:30 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 20). The Washington match will stream on Big Ten Plus, while the Wisconsin match will air live on Big Ten Network.
Notes
• Michigan is 14-3 overall and 4-2 in the Big Ten Conference. Last weekend, the Wolverines fell in three sets to Illinois on Friday (Oct. 11) before rebounding with a four-set win at Ohio State. U-M took the first two sets against the Buckeyes, including a 24-21 comeback in the first set, before falling in the third. Michigan won the fourth set 25-21, led by nine kills from Allison Jacobs.
• Jacobs leads the team with 293 points, averaging over four kills per set. She has 272 kills this season, with double-digit kills in 15 straight matches and 16 of 17 overall. Jacobs also has 143 digs, five double-doubles, 30 blocks, 31 assists, and five aces. She's been excellent on receptions, totaling 425 with a .960 reception percentage—the highest among players with at least five receptions.
• Sophomore Morgan Burke is averaging over 10 assists per set. She ranks sixth in the conference and 41st nationally at 10.08 assists per set, and second in the conference and 27th nationally with 665 total assists. Burke also has 20 aces, 168 digs, 21 kills, and 19 blocks.
• After a strong freshman season, Valentina Vaulet has improved in kills, hitting percentage, aces, and digs per set. Vaulet has 175 kills, 41 aces, and 119 digs this season. She ranks second in the conference and fourth nationally in aces per set (0.71) and sixth in the nation in total aces.
• Senior libero Maddi Cuchran leads the team with 269 digs, averaging over four per set. She surpassed her season total from last year in 34 fewer sets. Cuchran also has 74 assists, more than doubling her career total. She's had double-digit digs in 13 straight matches.
• Junior Serena Nyambio is averaging over a block per set and hitting .412. Nyambio has 68 blocks, 137 kills, and is 21st nationally in hitting percentage. She ranks third in the Big Ten in hitting percentage and seventh among middles in kills per set.
• Serving subs, senior Mira Chopra and freshman Trixie McMillin, have made an impact. Chopra has 16 aces in 43 sets, while McMillin served six consecutive points to help secure a 26-24 first-set win over Ohio State. McMillin has nine aces and 36 digs this season.
• Freshman Ella Demetrician has tallied 107 kills and ranks fourth on the team with 1.95 kills per set. She's had double-digit kills three times and recorded her first career double-double against UCLA.
• Michigan ranks top 50 nationally in four categories: assists per set, hitting percentage, kills per set, and team assists. U-M is fifth in the Big Ten in assists per set (12.70), kills per set (13.62), and hitting percentage (.248).
• Washington (13-3, 3-3 Big Ten) began the season with a 13-game win streak but has lost its last three matches. Michigan is 1-2 all-time against the Huskies, with their last win coming in 1993 at home.
• Ranked No. 9 nationally, Wisconsin (11-4, 5-1 Big Ten) has lost to four ranked teams this season but has won five straight since opening the Big Ten season with a loss to Minnesota. Wisconsin leads the all-time series 62-21 and swept Michigan last year.
