MADISON, Wis. -- The No. 14-ranked University of Michigan men's cross country team completed the second of the weekend's two races at the Wisconsin Pre-Nationals on Saturday (Oct. 19).
Arkansas (89) won the event, while Iowa State (128) placed second. Stanford (142), New Mexico (166), and Northern Arizona (178) rounded out the top five finishers.
Michigan sat in 15th place through the first two kilometers, with Luke Venhuizen leading the team in 74th place. Trent McFarland (88th place) and Caleb Jarema (91st place) followed closely, while Heath McAllister came in at No. 101.
At the halfway point, Venhuizen continued to pace the Wolverines, moving into 73rd. McAllister also gained ground, sitting in 99th place with four kilometers remaining.
Nathan Lopez improved 14 spots between the fourth and sixth kilometers, advancing to 89th place before finishing 81st with a personal best time of 23:44.0Â as the lead runner for Michigan. Venhuizen followed with a personal best of 23:45.0, placing 85th.
McFarland finished 107th (23:58.0), McAllister came in 115th (24:01.2), and Jarema placed 137th (24:13.2). Both McFarland and McAllister achieved personal bests, contributing to Michigan's 22nd place finish.
The Wolverines will close out the regular season at home, heading to Dexter, Mich. for the EMU Fall Classic on Friday, Oct. 25.
