LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The No. 15-ranked University of Michigan men's cross country team earned a first-place finish at the Live in Lou Classic hosted by Louisville on Saturday (Oct. 5).
West Texas A&M (76) earned a second-place finish while Lee (Tennessee) (139) finished third. Charlotte (142) and North Central (Illinois) (171) round out the top five.
Jack Kelke led the Maize and Blue effort, finishing ninth with a personal-best time of 24:04.3. The junior sat in 33rd through the first 2.1 kilometers, moving up to 28th at the 3.9k mark. Kelke pulled into 16th place heading into the final two kilometers, before finishing in the top 10 and shaving more than 90 seconds off his personal best.
The second of the two Wolverines to finish in the top 10 was Jozef Meyers, who finished 10th with a time of 24:09.6, while Anthony Hancock earned a 14th-place finish (24:11.6). Both bested personal bests by nearly 30 seconds.
Zach Stewart placed 18th (24:16.6) and Peter Baracco placed 23rd with a personal-best time of 24:22.1. Kyler McNatt earned a 26th-place finish with a personal time of 24:26.1 to shave more than two minutes off his previous best.
The Wolverines will get a break before returning to competition, splitting the weekend between the Bradley Pink Classic on Oct. 18 and Pre-Nationals hosted by Wisconsin on Oct. 19.
