
Wolverines to Head to Baylor for NCAA Singles and Doubles

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's tennis team will send three Wolverines to compete in singles and one doubles team to the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships at Baylor this week (Nov. 19-24). Piper Charney, Julia Fliegner and Lily Jones are competing in singles, with Jones teaming up with Jessica Bernales to participate in doubles.

• Michigan will send Julia Fliegner, Lily Jones and Piper Charney to participate in the NCAA Singles Championship. It is the third straight season that U-M will have three singles players competing.
• Jones will team up with Jessica Bernales in the NCAA Doubles Championship. It is the third straight season that Michigan has had a doubles team qualify for the tournament.
• Jones and Charney are making their first appearances in the singles tournament, with Fliegner making her third consecutive tournament. Fliegner is the No. 7 seed for the tournament.
• Fliegner qualified for the singles tournament by finishing runner-up at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships, with Jones and Charney each reaching the semifinals of the ITA Sectional Championships to punch their tickets. On the doubles front, Bernales and Jones finished runner-up at the ITA Sectional Championships to earn their berth.
• Fliegner is the sixth Wolverine to make at least three singles appearances, joining Emina Bektas, Ronit Yurovsky, Brienne Minor, Kate Fahey and Kari Miller on the list.
• Fliegner will open up with Miami's Raquel Gonzalez (5:30 p.m. CT), Jones will face Sara Ziodato of Virginia (1 p.m. CT) and Charney will play Tatum Evans of North Carolina (10:30 a.m. CT). Singles action will begin on Tuesday (Nov. 19).
• In doubles, Jones and Bernales will play Rachel Gailis/Alicia Dudeney of Florida that begins on Wednesday (Nov. 20) at 4:30 p.m.Â
• The singles and doubles championships have moved to the fall season for the first time.
• These tournaments mark the end of the fall season. U-M will play one more tournament, hosting the Michigan Invitational at the Varsity Tennis Center in January.
