
Wolverines Set to Host Maryland on Thursday, No. 13 Oregon on Saturday

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan volleyball team (16-11, 6-10 Big Ten) will be back at home this weekend with two matches at Cliff Keen Arena. The Wolverines will first face off against Maryland (13-14, 4-12 Big Ten) on Thursday (Nov. 21) at 7 p.m. before hosting No. 13 Oregon (19-6, 11-5 Big Ten) at 7 p.m. on Saturday (Nov. 23). Both matches will be streamed live on B1G+.
Notes
• The Wolverines came out of last weekend with two losses to Michigan State and No. 16 Minnesota, both in four sets. On Friday (Nov. 15), the Wolverines traveled to East Lansing and fell to the Spartans after winning the first set. Michigan then went to play in Minneapolis on Sunday (Nov. 17) and won the second set 28-26 but was unable to win the match.
• Jacque Boney has been an asset to the Wolverines in her final season. After this past weekend, she is just short of 200 kills on the season, sitting at 199 which ranks third on the team. Boney has been an efficient hitter, sporting a .301 hitting percentage. Defensively, she has recorded 89 total blocks (nine solo and 80 assists) which ranks second on the team. In her career, she has 383 total blocks, which ranks seventh in program history.
• This past weekend was a big one for Morgan Burke as she reached an impressive milestone of 1,000 assists in a single season. She now has 1,018 this season and 1,506 in her career, which puts her at 12th in program history. Additionally, she ranks third in the Big Ten and 37th in the nation in total assists. Burke also has made contributions behind the service line with 27 aces and defensively with 260 digs on the season -- second on the team in both categories.
• Ella Demetrician has been a major player for the Wolverines in her freshman season. So far, she has recorded 179 kills and 165 digs and is one of only three players on the team with triple-digit kills and digs. Among the Power 4 conferences, Demetrician is one of 24 players averaging over 1.90 kills per set, one of seven in the Big Ten and just one of three freshmen in the conference with more than 100 kills and 100 digs.
• Valentina Vaulet has been an impact player for the Wolverines this season, with her most significant contributions coming from behind the service line. She has a team-leading 57 total aces, which ranks second in the Big Ten and 10th in the nation. She also has an average of 0.61 aces per set, which ranks third in the conference and fifth in the nation. Vaulet's serving success ties her for sixth in program history with Alex Hunt for single-season aces. At the net, Vaulet has tallied 295 kills ranking second on the team and she has 73 in the last five matches.<.p>
• As the team's libero, Maddi Cuchran has played in every set this season, joining Boney and Burke. She leads the team with 393 digs and is averaging 3.85 digs per set, ranking second and fourth in the Big Ten for those categories, respectively. Cuchran also has been a contributor with her assists and service aces, ranking second on the team in assists with 114 and tied for third in aces with 19. She is 39 digs away from making it into the top 15 for single-season digs in program history.
• In her third season with the Wolverines, Serena Nyambio has been performing well. She leads the team in hitting percentage with an average of .347 this season, which ranks ninth in the conference. She leads the team in blocking, tallying 99 total blocks (14 solo and 85 assists) so far this season.
• Maryland is 13-14 on the season and 4-12 in the Big Ten standings. The Terrapins' conference wins came against UCLA, Michigan State, Rutgers, and most recently Ohio State (Nov. 15). Last weekend, they faced No. 4 Penn State, falling in four sets to snap a three-game win streak. Michigan leads 15-3 in the all-time series against Maryland, with all three of the Terrapins' wins coming in the last six years.
• No. 13 Oregon enters the weekend at 19-6 and 11-5 in the Big Ten. With Oregon being new to the Big Ten this season, the Wolverines have only faced the Ducks four times before. The all-time series is tied at 2-2, with the most recent matchup being a four-set win for Michigan in the second round of the 2016 NCAA Tournament.
