
Fliegner Earns All-America Honors on NCAA Day Two

WACO, Texas -- Julia Fliegner of the University of Michigan women's tennis team earned All-America honors in singles by knocking off Emma Jackson of Duke in straight sets to highlight the Wolverines' action on the second day at the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships (Nov. 20).
Fliegner earned the first All-America honors of her career by reaching the round of 16 in the singles tournament. After winning the first set, Fliegner won the first three games of the second and never looked back in the win.
Lily Jones saw her tournament come to an end at the hands of the No. 5 seed Valerie Glozman of Stanford. After splitting the first two sets, Jones was up 5-1 in the third before Glozman rallied to win in a tiebreaker.
Piper Charney fell to the top seed, Mary Stoiana, in straight sets (6-1, 7-5). After dropping the first set, Charney came back in the second trying to take the match the distance. She had a chance to send it to a breaker but was broken in the 12th game to end her fall season.
Jones and Jessica Bernales fell in the first round of doubles to Florida's Alicia Dudeney and Rachel Gailis in the first round of the NCAA Doubles Championship as U-M's only pair participating.
Fliegner is back in action in the round of 16 tomorrow (Nov. 21).
