
Michigan in First after Day One of Georgia Tech Invitational

ATLANTA, Ga. -- The No. 17-ranked University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team accumulated 402 points and leads the field after the first day of the Georgia Tech Invitational on Friday (Nov. 22).
After the first preliminaries of the meet, Michigan kicked off the finals session with a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of Colin Geer, Tyler Ray, Bence Szabados, and Jack Wilkening logged a time of 1:16.00.
In the individual events, Eduardo Moraes finished second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:14.49. Lorne Wigginton clocked a mark of 4:17.51 to finish fourth overall, and Joshua Brown took fifth with a time of 4:18.01.
The Wolverines dominated the 200-yard IM, finishing 1-2-3. Gal Groumi came out on top with a time of 1:42.39. Eitan Ben-Shitrit secured second with a mark of 1:42.71, and Geer took third with a time of 1:42.73.
Szabados finished second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 19.24, and Ray followed closely, clocking a 19.32.
Cameron Gammage was stellar on the three-meter springboard, finishing second with a score of 409.95.
Michigan closed out the first day of the meet with a fourth-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay. The quartet of Jaeddan Gamilla, Ray, Szabados, and Wilkening posted a time of 3:06.54.
The Maize and Blue will be back in action on Saturday (Nov. 23) for the second day of the Georgia Tech Invitational. Preliminaries will start at 10:00 a.m., and finals will start at 5:00 p.m.
