
Wolverines to Face No. 22 Xavier for Fort Myers Tip-Off Title

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- After its 75-63 win over Virginia Tech on Tuesday (Nov. 25), the University of Michigan men's basketball team will face No. 22-ranked Xavier on Wednesday night (Nov. 27) for the 2024 Fort Myers Tip-Off Championship at Suncoast Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:35 p.m., and the game will be broadcast live on FS1.
Notes
• Michigan defeated Virginia Tech 75-63 in its opening Fort Myers Tip-Off contest to advance to the championship. The Wolverines now face Xavier, which advanced with a 75-66 win over South Carolina.
• Roddy Gayle Jr. paced the Wolverines against Virginia Tech with his sixth career 20-plus point game as he posted 20 points with four rebounds and four assists. Will Tschetter came off the bench to spark the Wolverines' first-half rally and finished with 10 points and three rebounds. Danny Wolf hauled in 11 rebounds and had four assists.
• Michigan is 3-1 all-time against Xavier with two of the four games having been played in the postseason -- 1984 NIT quarterfinal, a 63-62 U-M win as part of the Wolverines' first NIT title, and the 1989 NCAA first round, a 92-87 U-M win that started their run to its first national championship.
• U-M, which has won its last four games, is playing five of its next six games on the road and is away from Ann Arbor for seven of its next 10 games.
• After four blocks over his first three games, Vladislav Goldin has seven in his last three with back-to-back games with three. Starting the season 2-for-9 from long range (three games), Gayle has gone 5-for-10 (50 percent) from deep over his last three games.
• Tre Donaldson leads U-M with 25 assists (4.2 per game) and Gayle has 20 (3.3 apg), but right behind the duo is Wolf, who has 17 (2.8 apg). Wolf has posted three games with four assists, including his last game against Virginia Tech.
• Nimari Burnett leads U-M with 14 long-range baskets as he is shooting 50 percent (14-for-28). He has made at least two triples in his last five games.
• After Thanksgiving, the Michigan women's team plays at the Fort Myers Tip-Off, in Shell Division play. Kim Barnes Arico's Wolverines open with Belmont (Nov. 29 at 2 p.m.) and play either Virginia Tech or Davidson on Saturday (Nov. 30) in the consolation (2 p.m.) or championship (5 p.m.).
