
Wolverines to Head to ITA Indoor Championship

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 13-ranked University of Michigan men's tennis team (5-3) heads to New York City from Friday through Monday (Feb. 16-19) for the ITA National Team Indoor Championship hosted by Columbia University. Matches will be played at both the Milstein Family Tennis Center on campus, as well as the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Notes
• This will be Michigan's fifth trip to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship and third time in the last four years. The Wolverines reached the semifinals in both 2020 and 2023.
• The Wolverines defeated Nevada 4-0 and then-ranked No. 9 Stanford 4-3 in the ITA Kick-Off at the Varsity Tennis Center last month advance to the ITA indoors.
• Each team is guaranteed three matches at the tournament. Joining No. 11 seed Michigan at the event are No. 1 Ohio State, No. 2 TCU, No. 3 Texas, No. 4 Virginia, No. 5 Tennessee, No. 6 Wake Forest, No. 7 South Carolina, No. 8 Columbia, No. 9 Harvard, No. 10 Texas A&M, No. 12 USC, No. 13 Duke, No. 14 Arizona, No. 15 Arizona State and No. 16 Alabama.
• As the No. 11 seed, Michigan will begin play on Friday (Feb. 16) against No. 6 seed Wake Forest. The teams will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the National Tennis Center. The Wolverines are 6-7 all-time against the Demon Deacons, with the last meeting coming in 2022 when Wake hosted the ITA Kick-Off, topping Michigan 4-3.
• The Wolverines are 5-3 on the season most recently suffering a 4-0 loss to No. 2-ranked TCU on Tuesday (Feb. 13) at the Varsity Tennis Center. It was U-M's first loss at home in 12 matches.
• Michigan has three ranked singles players, led by No. 17 Gavin Young. Jacob Bickersteth is ranked a career-best No. 48 and Patorn Hanchaikul made his debut at No. 125.
• The Wolverines have already played three teams that are in the ITA indoors in TCU, Tennessee and Harvard. Michigan is 1-3 against teams ranked in the top 25.
• Bickersteth and Hanchaikul are both 5-1 in dual singles play this year. Bickersteth has played all six matches at No. 2, while Hanchaikul has played at Nos. 3, 4 and 5.
• Michigan is 3-0 when it wins the doubles point but has rallied twice in the five times it did not take the match.
