
Michigan Finishes Strong on Final Day of First Chance Meet

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan swimming and diving program wrapped up competition at the First Chance Meet on Sunday (Feb. 18) at Canham Natatorium. Eight Wolverines raced in four events to close out the meet.
First up, Taylor Morris posted a season-best mark in the women's 200-yard backstroke, touching the wall in 2:01.86, improving her time in the event by more than two seconds.
Next, Jaden Ficklen hit the pool for the men's 100-yard freestyle and dropped his time by more than a half-second, finishing the four laps of the pool in 45.57 seconds, surpassing his previous best mark of 46.15 set at the Georgia Invitational in November.
After Ficklen's swim, a trio of Wolverines raced one another in the men's 200-yard breaststroke. Freshman Ethan Schwab finished with the best time, posting a season-best mark of 1:56.30, eclipsing his previous best by nearly seven seconds. Cameron Luarde dropped his time by nearly two seconds, finishing in 1:57.23. Matt Kroll registered a time of 1:58.59 to tally a new benchmark in the event this season.
Freshman tandem Maciej Gabrys and Josean Massucco closed out the First Chance Meet with a tight race in the men's 200-yard butterfly. Massucco narrowly out-touched Gabrys, logging a time of 1:46.49 while Gabrys clocked a 1:46.50. Both times were season bests.
Next up, the Wolverine women will battle the best in the conference at the Big Ten Women's Swimming and Diving Championships from Wednesday through Saturday (Feb. 21-24), hosted by Purdue in West Lafayette, Ind.
