
Wolverines to Head to New Jersey for Rematch with Scarlet Knights

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's basketball team (8-20, 3-14 Big Ten) plays two of its next three on the road and starts with a trip to Piscataway, N.J., on Thursday (Feb. 29) to take on Rutgers (14-13, 6-10 Big Ten) at Jersey Mike's Arena. It is the Wolverines' second matchup with the Scarlet Knights, who claimed a 69-59 win at Crisler Center in early February. The rematch is scheduled for an 8:30 p.m. tipoff and the game will be broadcast live on FS1.
Notes
• U-M is 16-3 in the all-time series with Rutgers. The Maize and Blue has lost three of the last five meeting with the Scarlet Knights, but holds a 7-1 record in Piscataway.
• The last time Michigan played in Piscataway (Feb. 23, 2023), Michigan held Rutgers to a season-low 45 points and forced 13 turnovers as the Wolverines took down the Scarlet Knights 58-45. Dug McDaniel led U-M with 16 points and five steals.
• On Feb. 3, Michigan was unable to hold on its second-half lead and fell to Rutgers 69-59. Olivier Nkamhoua led U-M with 14 points, while Tarris Reed Jr. recorded a double-double with 12 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. McDaniel added 10 points.
• Michigan announced the loss of Nkamhoua after successful season-ending left-wrist surgery on Feb. 20. He will have a three-to-four month recovery period. He was averaging 14.8 points and 7.1 rebounds.
• Juwan Howard announced McDaniel will begin to travel with the Wolverines. "Dug is making good progress and has done what we've asked him to do to this point. With that being said, he will be rejoining the team on the road. We have appreciated his efforts and those who have been supporting him."
• U-M averages 8.3 three-pointers per game. U-M has three Wolverines with 40-plus threes -- Nimari Burnett (47), Terrance Williams II (46) and McDaniel (46). The trio has combined for 139 of 231 made this season (60 percent).
• Burnett has posted four double-figure scoring games over his last five. During the stretch, he is averaging 12.2 points and shooting 64.9 percent from the field. He is 10-for-15 (55.6 percent) from long range. Overall, he averages 9.8 ppg.
• With six assists against No. 3 Purdue, McDaniel surpassed 100 for a second straight season -- 103 (4.7 apg). As a freshman, he led U-M with 122 (3.6 apg). He is just 25 assists away from reaching 250 in his career.
• McDaniel continues to lead the Wolverines in scoring at 16.7 points per game. He is +8.0 per game (8.6 ppg in 2022-23) and has 21 double-figure games in 22 played. He leads U-M with six 20-plus point games and two of 30-plus.
• With a team-best 42 blocks, Reed cracked into U-M's all-time top 20 (17th) with 73. He needs 27 to become the 12th Wolverine to reach 100.
• Williams averages 12.4 points per game, doubling any prior season. He has 21 double-figure games, doubling his prior career total of 10.
• Will Tschetter has consistently shot above 50 percent from long range the entire season, sitting at 56.5 percent (26-for-46). He is 7-for-13 (53.8 percent) over his last seven games. A year ago, he went 5-for-20 (25 percent).
• Tray Jackson has posted back-to-back double-figure games. He had 10 points at Northwestern (Feb. 22), while adding five rebounds in his first start of the season. He followed with 10 more, including two triples against No. 3 Purdue.
