
Wolverines to Host No. 3 Cornhuskers in Top-Five Clash

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 2-ranked University of Michigan men's gymnastics team (7-1, 0-1 Big Ten) returns to the friendly confines of Cliff Keen Arena to host No. 3 Nebraska (1-0, 1-0 Big Ten) on Saturday (Feb. 10) at 1 p.m. The meet will be streamed live on B1G+.

• Michigan is ranked No. 2 in the latest Road To Nationals rankings (409.333), highlighted by the top spots on still rings (68.650) and parallel bars (68.883). The Wolverines hold the No. 3 spot on vault (71.533) and high bar (67.600) and are No. 4 on floor exercise (66.600) and pommel horse (67.133).
• Sophomore Fred Richard is fresh off winning his second straight Big Ten Specialist of the Week honor for his 14.90 on high bar. He also took the award for his performance against Army (Jan. 20).
• Senior Javier Alfonso leads the NCAA on still rings with a 14.767 three-score average, along with junior Logan McKeown, who ranks first on parallel bars (14.117). Junior David Wolma is second on vault (14.800), while graduate student Crew Bold is second on high bar (14.050) and third on parallel bars (13.917).
• U-M is a combined 19-6 in Big Ten dual meets over the last five seasons and is 6-3 under current head coach Yuan Xiao.
• Richard owns the second-highest score in the NCAA on pommel horse (15.00), while Alfonso boasts the second-highest mark on still rings (15.10). Juda's 15.00 on vault is tied for the lead in the land, while Richard and Bold both pace the country with a 14.40 on high bar.
• Seven current and former Wolverines will participate in the USA Gymnastics sanctioned Winter Cup Feb. 23-25 in Louisville, Ky. Alfonso, sophomore Landen Blixt, graduate assistant coach Cameron Bock, Bold, Juda, junior Rithik Puri, and Richard will don the maize and blue in the USA Gymnastics sanctioned event.
• Against Illinois, the Wolverines marked a 410.350 team score with two event wins from Juda in the all-around with a score of 82.800 and on vault with a 14.80. Richard won parallel bars and high bar with a 14.40 and high bar with a 14.90.
• Nebraska has yet to compete in the NCAA minimum meets to earn a three-score average. Most recently, the Cornhuskers defeated Penn State with a team score of 408.800. Nebraska boasts two standouts in 2023 Big Ten Gymnast of the Year Taylor Christopulos and team captain Zac Tiderman.
