NORMAN, Okla. -- The No. 7-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team put together a solid meet but ultimately fell to No. 1 Oklahoma 198.650-197.325 on Friday evening (March 1) at the Lloyd Noble Center.
The Wolverines earned a season-best 49.500 on the uneven bars behind a team-best 9.950 from Sierra Brooks, who led Michigan in the all-around with a 39.650, while McCaleigh Marr and Carly Bauman each scored 9.900s. Haylen Zabrowski also tied a career-best on the uneven bars and Jenna Mulligan tied a career-high 9.900 on the beam for the Maize and Blue.
The uneven bars squad came out firing on all cylinders as Carly Bauman, Brooks and Marr closed out the rotation with three-straight scores of 9.900-or-higher, including a a team-best 9.950 from Brooks. Michigan also used matching 9.875s from Jacey Vore and Gabby Wilson to open the rotation and score a season-best 49.500 in the first rotation -- slightly trailing OU, who scored a 49.525, heading into the second rotation of the night.
The vault effort was led by Reyna Guggino and Brooks, who scored matching 9.875s, while Wilson posted a 9.825 and the Wolverines trailed the Sooners 99.250-98.575 at the halfway point of the meet.
U-M recorded a 49.425 on the floor behind matching 9.925s from Brooks and Wilson, while Mulligan and Guggino scored 9.875s and Paige Thaxton anchored with a 9.825. Michigan went into the final rotation with a running score of 148.000 and Oklahoma had a 149.050 after three complete rotations.
Mulligan led off the final rotation with a 9.900 for the Maize and Blue to tie a career-best, while Guggino and Wilson scored 9.850s and both Vore and Bauman notched 9.825s. Brooks capped off the rotation with a 9.900. U-M ultimately fell to the defending national champions, 198.650-197.325.
The Wolverines return to Crisler Center Friday (March 8) when they host Georgia for a non-conference meet at 6:45 p.m. in their annual Flip for Chip Meet.
