
Milligan Finishes Seventh on Three-Meter on Day Three of NCAA Championships

ATHENS, Ga. -- The No. 13-ranked University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team competed in five individual swimming events and one diving event on the third day of the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday (March 22) at Gabrielsen Natatorium.
With one day remaining, U-M checks in at 12th with 102.5 points. Top-ranked Virginia continues to lead the pack with a total of 360.5 points.
Kathryn Ackerman got the Maize and Blue started in the morning session by finishing with a 400-yard IM time of 4:06.88 to earn a trip to the consolation final. In the 100-yard butterfly, Brady Kendall posted a mark of 51.72 to finish 24th while Natalie Kan took 40th with a time of 52.25. The Wolverines put two swimmers in the 200-yard freestyle consolation final as Stephanie Balduccini and Katie Crom finished inside the top 16 to earn a second swim on Friday. Devon Kitchel shaved 0.71 seconds off her entry time in the 100-yard breaststroke and touched the wall at 1:00.07 to finish 38th. Casey Chung rounded out the individual swimmers with a 23rd-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 51.89. In diving, Kiarra Milligan posted the seventh-best score on the three-meter springboard to earn a place in the championship final.
Ackerman kicked off the finals session with a 15th-place finish in the 400 IM, touching the wall at 4:08.42. Later on, Balduccini and Crom competed in the B final in the 200 freestyle, finishing 11th and 16th overall, respectively. Balduccini clocked a 1:43.10 while Crom posted a 1:44.55. Milligan registered a three-meter score of 288.65 to finish seventh overall. The quartet of Casey Chung, Lindsay Flynn, Brady Kendall and Devon Kitchel wrapped up night three of the championships in the 400-yard medley relay, posting a time of 3:29.98 to take 16th overall.
Michigan will conclude the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday (March 23) at Gabrielsen Natatorium. The final day will feature the 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard butterfly, 200-yard breaststroke, 1,650-yard freestyle and the 400-yard freestyle relay. Trials will start at 10:00 a.m. with finals getting underway at 6:00 p.m.
