Wolverines Run Win Streak to Seven With Victory at Maryland

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The No. 2-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team ran its Big Ten win streak to three straight and seven overall with a 4-1 road victory over Maryland on Saturday (March 23) at the Junior Tennis Champions Center.
Having dropped the doubles point, the Wolverines went to work in singles action. Gala Mesochoritou earned the first win of the day, surrendering just four games and taking the 6-1, 6-3 victory in the No. 2 spot to pull the Wolverines level at a 1-1.
It was a flurry for the Wolverines from there, with Jaedan Brown defeating Diya Challa 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 for Michigan's first lead of the afternoon.Â
No. 3-ranked Kari Miller followed in short order with a straight-set win at the top spot, knocking off No. 85-ranked Selma Cadar, 6-3, 6-1.Â
Piper Charney followed moments later with the deciding point behind a win at No. 4. She picked up a win in the first-set tiebreaker, getting the 7-4 win as Michigan won all first six sets to take control of the match. She dialed in for 6-0 second-set win over Maria Budin to lock up the Wolverines' 4-1 victory over Maryland.
Michigan will be back in action Sunday (March 24), traveling to Piscataway, N.J., to take on Rutgers at noon.
