
Second-Ranked Wolverines Set for Stanford, LSU

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 2-ranked University of Michigan women's track and field team will split the weekend between two meets -- heading to Palo Alto, Calif., for the Stanford Invitational Friday (March 29) and Baton Rouge, La., for the Battle on the Bayou Friday-Saturday, March 29-30.
Notes
• Eight Wolverines from the distance squad will compete at Stanford, while the rest of the team will compete at LSU. Action on the West Coast will begin at 9:54 a.m. PT. At LSU, Friday's field events will begin at 3:15 p.m. CT while track events will begin at 5:10 p.m. CT. Sunday's field competition is slated to begin at 10 a.m. CT and track competition will begin at 12:40 p.m. CT.
• The Maize and Blue is debuting at No. 2 in the first USTFCCCA Rankings of the season. U-M has five top-five NCAA marks and 10 top-10 NCAA marks. Elizabeth Tapper (shot put, 17.06m) and Penelopea Gordon (1,500-meter run, 4:17.63) lead the team with the No. 2- and No. 3-best NCAA marks in their respective events.
• At the Clyde Hart Classic last weekend (March 22-23), six Wolverines posted top-10 U-M marks. Sidney Green ran 58.48 in the 400-meter hurdles to finish fifth and tie for the seventh fastest time in program history. Green earned a Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week nod for her performance. Tapper's shot put mark of 17.06m ranks second in program history, while Maria Deaviz's shot put mark of 16.86m comes in third and Trinity Franklin's mark of 15.61m comes in at No. 10. In the javelin, Emma Yungeberg threw for 49.03m and Clare McNamara threw for 38.45m. Yungeberg and McNamara's marks are second and ninth in program history, respectively.
• Aasia Laurencin saw personal bests in the 100-meter dash (11.80) and the 200-meter dash (24.27), with Susan Bansbach seeing a personal best in the 400-meter dash (56.00).
• Lani Bloom took second in the 1,500-meter run, with a time of 4:21.84 to clock in at No. 13 in the NCAA. Lisa Luecke finished 11th with a time of 4:35.71 in her outdoor debut.
• In the discus throw, Corinne Jemison earned a fourth-place finish with a mark of 51.11m (167-08). Jemison's mark is ranks fourth in the NCAA.
