ANN ARBOR, Mich -- The No. 2-ranked University of Michigan women's track and field team competed in two meets on Friday (March 29), at the Battle on the Bayou hosted by LSU and the Stanford Invitational hosted by Stanford.
Stanford Invitational
The Maize and Blue went 1-3 in section five of the 5,000-meter run. Tilly Simpson finished first with a time of 16:29.14 while Rylee Tolson finished third with a time of 16:32.73.
Samantha Saenz represented U-M in section one of the 10,000-meter run, posting a personal-best time of 33:50.29. Saenz's time is the 10th fastest time in program history.
Battle on the Bayou
Senior Aasia Laurencin set a personal-best for the second- straight week, finishing 22nd in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.12 (1.5m/s). Sidney Green continues to have a breakout debut season, running a personal-best 57.79 in the 400-meter hurdles for a sixth-place finish. Green's time is the fifth-fastest in program history.
Three Wolverines finished in the top-10 of the 1,500-meter run, with Penelopea Gordon (4:16.38) finishing third, Samantha Hastie (4:19.69) finishing sixth, and Cassie Kearney (4:22.31) finishing 10th. Gordon's time was a personal-best and broke the meet record.
Emma Yungeberg threw for 48.90m (160-5) to finish sixth in the javelin throw.
U-M will close out the weekend with day two of the Battle on the Bayou at LSU on Saturday (March 30).
