Wolverines Stay Unbeaten in B1G Play with Sweep of Northwestern

EVANSTON, Ill. -- The University of Michigan men's tennis team posted a perfect 4-0 win over Northwestern on Friday (March 29) at the Combe Tennis Center to improve to 3-0 in the Big Ten, the team's third straight victory.
The Wolverines picked up the doubles point for the third consecutive match when No. 27 ranked Gavin Young and Jacob Bickersteth took a 7-5 win at No. 1 doubles. Bjorn Swenson and Mert Oral grabbed a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles, while Alex Cairo and Will Cooksey were knotted at 6-6 at No. 2 before the match was left unfinished.
Nicholas Steiglehner earned the first singles win when he topped Chad Miller 6-3, 6-4 at No. 6 singles. It marked his 14th singles win of the season.
No. 15 ranked Young followed up with matching 6-4 sets over Presley Thieneman to push Michigan ahead 3-0. Young has won his last four matches and is 13-10 in singles play this year.
Cooksey captured his third straight win and clinched the match for the Wolverines, taking 7-6 (4), 6-2 wins over Greyson Casey.
Michigan travels to No. 19 Illinois on Sunday (March 31) for a noon match.
