ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 9-ranked University of Michigan rowing team is in the Sunshine State this weekend, traveling to Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota for the two-day Big Ten Invitational, Friday and Saturday (April 19-20). The Wolverines will hit the road for the biggest regular-season event of the year after back-to-back weekends at home. Friday's (April 19) races begin at 8:30 a.m., while Saturday's (April 20) action commences at 8 a.m.
Notes
• The field at Nathan Benderson Park will consist of 24 of the top programs from across the country (including all eight Big Ten programs) featuring several ranked opponents in Michigan, Brown, Ohio State, Duke, Tennessee, Rutgers, and Indiana. Teams will race across three sessions (two Friday, one Saturday).
• Races will be streamed live on RHStv . Fans can watch on any of several streaming devices including Roku, Amazon Fire, Apple TV, and a number of mobile devices and during the broadcast, can join in a Live Chat feature to cheer on the Wolverines. After the live broadcast ends, the event will be available Video on Demand.
• This weekend marks the regular-season finale for the Maize and Blue, and the team's final chance to test its speed against top-ranked competition before the postseason begins next month.
• This is the fifth year that the Big Ten Invitational event has been on the schedule (2020-present). Nathan Benderson Park, the host for three of the four Big Ten Invitational regattas, is one of the premier sites in the U.S. for rowing competition. The location was the site of three of the last five NCAA Championship regattas (2018, '21, '22).
• U-M will have two varsity eights, three varsity fours, and two novice eights in action over the weekend, representing more than 50 athletes in competition.
• The Wolverines remain at No. 9 in the latest edition of the Pocock/CRCA Coaches poll. U-M is the top-ranked Big Ten program and one of four Big Ten teams in the top 20 overall (No. 12 Ohio State, No. 15 Rutgers, No. 16 Indiana).
• Michigan's first varsity eight was named Big Ten Boat of the Week earlier this month following head-to-head wins over No. 11 Virginia (6:35.5; +7.4) and No. 15 Duke (6:40.4; +10.0) at the Big Ten-ACC Challenge. The Wolverines and Blue Devils will see each other again this weekend.
