
Wolverines Set for Spartan Invitational at Michigan State

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 17-ranked University of Michigan women's track and field team will stay in-state, traveling to East Lansing for the Spartan Invitational hosted by Michigan State on Friday (April 5) beginning at 10:30 a.m.
Notes
• Track action at MSU will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the 5,000-meter run, while field action will begin at 11 a.m. with both the pole vault and high jump.
• The Maize and Blue remained in the USTFCCCA Top-25, coming in at No. 17 in the second round of rankings. In the event squad rankings, the shot put squad is No. 2 and the 800- and 1,500-meter run squads raked No. 4.
• U-M split across two meets last weekend, with the distance runners competing at the Stanford Invitational and the rest of the team competing at the Battle on the Bayou hosted by LSU.
• On the West Coast, Tilly Simpson finished first with a time of 16:29.14 while Rylee Tolson finished third with a time of 16:32.73 in the 5,000-meter run. Samantha Saenz posted a personal-best time of 33:50.29 the 10,000-meter run, the 10th fastest time in program history.
• In Baton Rouge, La., Aasia Laurencin set a personal best for the second straight week, finishing 22nd in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.12 seconds (1.5m/s). Sidney Green ran a personal-best 57.79 in the 400-meter hurdles for a sixth-place finish and fifth-fastest time in program history.
• Three Wolverines finished in the top-10 of the 1,500-meter run, with Penelopea Gordon (4:16.38) finishing third, Samantha Hastie (4:19.69) finishing sixth, and Cassie Kearney (4:22.31) finishing 10th. Gordon's time was a personal best and broke the meet record.
• In the 800-meter run, Gordon tied her personal best (2:04.78) to finish sixth and Kearney finished ninth with a personal best of 2:05.84. Hastie placed 12th (2:07.35), Mara Longenecker placed 24th with a personal best 2:10.51, and Lucy Petee placed 26th with a season best of 2:11.40.
• Maria Deaviz finished fourth in the shot put with a mark of 17.04m (55 feet, 11 inches), the No. 3 mark in program history, while Corinne Jemison finished fourth in the discus throw (56.10m/184-0).
