
Yungeberg Sets Program Javelin Record on First Day of B1G Outdoors

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Emma Yungeberg of the University of Michigan women's track and field team set the program javelin throw record on the first day of the 2024 Big Ten Outdoor Championships on Friday (May 10), hosted at the U-M Track and Field Stadium. The Wolverines sit in fifth place with 15 points.
In her second attempt of the day, Yungeberg set a personal best with a throw of 50.11m (164-5) and sat in second place. Her third attempt would prove to be her best of the day, coming in at 50.89m (164-11) for a second-place finish and the new program standard. The previous record was set by Lindsey Stephenson in 2004 (50.52m, 165-9).
Through the first four events of the heptathlon, Mia Manson sits in seventh place (3,022 pts.) and Clare McNamara sits in eighth place (2,943 pts.). The pair will compete in the javelin throw, the long jump, and the 800-meter run tomorrow to complete the heptathlon.
Cate Visscher finished seventh in the pole vault with a personal-best mark of 4.07m (13-4.25), picking up two points for U-M. Visscher is the sixth Wolverine in program history to break 4.0m.
Samantha Saenz earned five points for the Maize and Blue in the 10,000-meter run, finishing fourth with a personal-best time of 33:35.84. Saenz's time moves her to fifth on the program performers list.
Savannah Sutherland (55.72) and Sidney Green (59.13) advanced to the 400-meter hurdles finals on Sunday (May 12), while Penelopea Gordon (4:20.62) advanced to the 1,500-meter run finals.
The Big Ten Outdoor Championships will continue on Saturday (May 11) beginning at 10:15 a.m. with the heptathlon long jump.
