
Wolverines Remain Fifth After Day Two at Big Ten Outdoor Championships

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team picked up seven points to remain in fifth place (24 points) after day two of the Big Ten Outdoor Championships held Saturday (May 11) at U-M Track and Field Stadium. Iowa is in first place with 73.33 points.
The Wolverines picked up four points in the heptathlon, with Mia Manson finishing sixth (5,027 points) and Clare McNamara finishing eighth (4,907). Both set personal bests in the event, and Manson's mark is No. 9 on the program performer's list. McNamara's high jump mark of 1.63m (5 feet, 4.25 inches) and her heptathlon mark set the Maltese national standard.
Maria Deaviz added five points to U-M's total, placing fourth in the shot put with a mark of 16.82m (55-2.25). Corinne Jemison also advanced to the finals, finishing in ninth place (16.05m, 52-8) -- just 0.02 meters shy of a podium finish.
In the 100-meter hurdle preliminaries, Aasia Laurencin posted a time of 13.05 seconds to advance to Sunday's (May 12) finals.
Penelopea Gordon (2:06.04) and Samantha Hastie (2:08.12) both advanced to the 800-meter run finals, finishing second and ninth, respectively. Cassie Kearney earned a 10th place finish with a time of 2:08.39, just 0.27 seconds shy of advancing to the finals.
The Big Ten Outdoor Championships will conclude on Sunday at U-M Track and Field Stadium with the triple jump at 11 a.m.
