Wolverines to Continue Postseason Action at NCAA East Preliminary Round

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team is set to continue with postseason competition at the NCAA East Preliminary Round hosted by Kentucky on May 23 and 25 (Thursday and Saturday).
Notes
• Sixteen Wolverines will represent U-M in the Blue Grass State in 11 individual events and one relay. The Maize and Blue lineup includes: Riley Ammenhauser (triple jump), Maria Deaviz (shot put), Trinity Franklin (shot put), Penelopea Gordon (1,500-meter run), Sidney Green (400-meter hurdles, 4x400-meter relay), Samantha Hastie (1,500-meter run), Sophie Isom (4x400-meter relay), Corinne Jemison (shot put, discus throw), Cassie Kearney (800-meter run), Aasia Laurencin (100-meter hurdles), Noelani Phillips (400-meter dash, 4x400-meter relay), Samantha Saenz (10,000-meter run), Savannah Sutherland (400-meter hurdles, 4x400-meter relay), Elizabeth Tapper (shot put, discus throw), Cate Visscher (pole vault) and Emma Yungeberg (javelin throw).
• Twelve competitors from each individual event and 12 teams from each relay event advance from each first round site. The 2024 NCAA Division I Track and Field Championships will be hosted by Oregon at Hayward Field.
• The team is coming off a sixth-place finish at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships, and hosted the event for the first time since 1988.
• Laurencin earned her second straight 100-meter hurdles title, running 12.90 seconds and edging the second-place finisher by just 0.03 seconds.
• Sutherland also won her second straight title in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing nearly two seconds faster than the second-place finisher and setting the meet record with a time of 55.01.
• Saenz earned two podium finishes, placing fourth in the 10,000-meter run with a personal-best time of 33:35.84 and sixth in the 5,000-meter run with a season-best time of 16:19.34.
• In the javelin throw, Yungeberg took home silver with a career-best throw of 50.89m (166 feet, 11 inches). Yungeberg's mark set the program record, topping the previous standard of 50.52m set by Lindsey Stephenson in 2004.
• Jemison medaled in the discus throw for the second straight year, earning a third-place finish with a mark of 56.90m (186-8).
• Field events will kick off both days, starting with the javelin throw on Thursday and the discus throw on Saturday. Both events will begin at 1 p.m. Track action will begin with the 100-meter hurdles on Thursday and the 1,500-meter run at 5:15 p.m. on Saturday.
