CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. -- University of Michigan women's golf senior Monet Chun was named today (Friday, May 24) as a Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American honorable mention to become U-M's third Wolverine to receive the honor. Chun joins Elodie Van Dievoet (2017, 2nd) and former teammate Ashley Lau (2021, HM; 2022, 1st) on U-M's All-American list.
Chun was one of six Big Ten golfers to receive WGCA honors including Kary Hollenbaugh (Ohio State), Katie Lu (Michigan State), Isabella McCauley (Minnesota), Lauryn Nguyen (Northwestern), and Isabel Sy (Illinois). All six were selected to the honorable mention team.
The 2024 Big Ten Golfer of the Year, Chun finished her final season capturing her second Big Ten title, tying with Minnesota's Isabella McCauley and Indiana's Caroline Craig with 209 (-7) totals. She also helped the Wolverines reach the NCAA regional for a fifth straight year. Chun led the Wolverines in seven of her 10 events.
Chun earned her second All-Big Ten first-team honor after her selection in 2021 while adding the Big Ten's Freshman of the Year honor. She was a second-team selection in 2022 and 2023. Chun received All-Big Ten honors in four straight seasons, joining Hailey Borja as the only Wolverines to earn conference accolades each year of their careers.
Chun had a remarkable final campaign, carrying a career-low average of 71.97 per round which helped her earn the Big Ten's Mary Fossum Award for the lowest average in the conference. She carded 11 sub-par rounds, leading the Wolverines.
She recorded a program record and career-low 61 (-10) in the second round of the Chattanooga Classic (April 7-9), which tied the second-lowest single-round score in NCAA women's golf history. She used that record round to win in Chattanooga, tying the U-M 54-hole record with a 203 (-10) total, and posting one of her five sub-par 54-hole totals.
With seven of her 11 sub-par rounds sub-70, Chun closed her career with 32 total sub-par rounds, second only to Borja's record 39.
Chun graduated in May from U-M's School of Kinesiology with a degree in movement science.
