
Four Wolverines Qualify for NCAA Championships on Final Day of East Prelims

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team qualified four Wolverines for the NCAA Outdoor Championships on the final day of the East Preliminary Round on Saturday (May 25) at the Kentucky Outdoor Track and Field Complex.
Corinne Jemison opened the day for the Wolverines with the discus throw, seeing her top mark of 56.96m (186 feet, 10 inches) on her first attempt. She finished sixth overall and advances to the NCAA Championships next month. Elizabeth Tapper also competed in the discus, finishing 33rd with a throw of 49.30m (161-9).
Aasia Laurencin punched her ticket to the NCAA Championships in the 100-meter hurdles, running 12.87 seconds to finish third in her heat and seventh overall. Reigning NCAA 400-meter hurdles champion Savannah Sutherland will get the chance to defend her title in Oregon, advancing to the NCAA Championships finishing first overall with a time with a time of 55.25. Sutherland finished first overall.
In the triple jump, Riley Ammenhauser finished eighth overall to advance to the NCAA Championships. She improved with every jump, fouling on her first attempt and seeing a mark of 12.71m (41-8.5) on her second jump before jumping 12.99m (42-7.5) on her final attempt.
Sidney Green, Sutherland, Sophie Isom, and Noelani Phillips competed in the 4x400-meter relay, but the team was disqualified due to a lane violation.
U-M will send a total of five Wolverines to the NCAA Outdoor Championships hosted by Oregon on June 5-8 at Hayward Field. In addition to Jemison, Laurencin, Sutherland, and Ammenhauser, Emma Yungeberg (javelin throw) will head to the West Coast to compete.
