
Michigan Suffers Setback at No. 2 Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The No. 13-ranked University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team secured second-place finishes in 11 of the 14 swim events on the day, but fell to No. 2 Indiana by a score of 176-118 on Friday (Jan. 10) at Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatics Center.
The Wolverines got off to a solid start with a pair of second-place finishes. In the meet opener, the team of Jack Wilkening, Ozan Kalafat, Tyler Ray, and Bence Szabados was the runner-up in the 200-yard medley relay, finishing in 1:23.80. Michigan's B relay (Inbar Danziger, Jaeddan Gamilla, Colin Geer and Logan Zucker) finished third (1:27.08).
In the first individual event of the meet, freshman Jon Jøntvedt posted a second-place time of 8:55.40 in the 1,000-yard freestyle.
Geer and Ray kept their momentum going, taking the top two spots in the 200-yard butterfly. Geer logged a time of 1:42.31, and Ray followed close behind with a mark of 1:42.36. Szabados secured second overall in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 19.78.
Gal Groumi touched the wall in 44.24 seconds in the 100 free to take second overall. Eitan Ben-Shitrit finished second in the 200-yard backstroke with a mark of 1:45.68 while Wilkening touched the wall at 1:46.43 to secure third.
In the breaststroke, Gamilla registered a time of 1:59.26 in the 200-yard event, finishing second. Eduardo Moraes posted a mark of 4:19.73 to take second in the 500 free.
Julian Cardenas led the way for Michigan in diving, finishing third on the one-meter springboard with a score of 361.20.
Next up, Michigan will return to Canham Natatorium to take on rival No. 10-ranked Ohio State on Saturday, Jan. 18. The meet will start at noon and will be streamed live on B1G+.
