
Michigan to Open Home Slate with Wolverine Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team will open its 2025 slate at home, hosting the Wolverine Invitational on Saturday (Jan. 11) at the U-M Indoor Track Building. Field events will begin at 10:30 a.m. and track events will start at 11 a.m.
Notes
• The Wolverines distance squad has already seen the track this season, competing at the GVSU Holiday Open on Dec. 6.
• On the track, the Maize and Blue will return senior Jacob Koerner (sprints), who holds the No. 8 mark in the 200-meter dash on the program performer's list, sophomores Trent McFarland and Camden Law (distance), who both hold top-10 marks in the 800-meter run, and Brown, the program record holder in the 600-meter and 800-meter runs.
• Field returners include jumpers Berachiah Ajala and Tianhao Wei, both of whom hold top-10 program triple jump marks, and throwers Aiden Felty, Eli Winter, and Zane Forist. Felty holds the No. 9 shot put mark on the program performers list while Winter and Forist both hold top-10 marks in the weight throw.
• Graduate transfers Jakob Kunzer (Villanova) and John McNeil (Brown) joined the squad, with Kuzner coming in as a sprinter and McNeil coming in as a multi-event athlete.
• Eight freshmen were added to the roster: Tyler Baker (multi-events), William Beardsley (distance), Brendan Herger (distance), Neil Howard (multi-events), Josh Hulsman (throws), Brayden Kennedy (sprints/hurdles), Jonathan Miles (distance), and Marcus Reilly (distance).
• Michigan finished in eighth place at the 2024 Big Ten Indoor Championships, earning five medals. The U-M distance medley relay squad won silver in a time of 9:43.96, while the Wolverines claimed four bronze -- two coming from Tom Brady in the 3,000- (7:57.85) and 5,000-meter (13:58.15) runs, along with Dubem Amene in the 400-meter dash (46.34 seconds) and Nick Foster in the mile (4:06.22). The Maize and Blue ended the championships with 12 podium finishes.
• Amene, Brady and Foster qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships as individuals in their respective events, while the distance medley relay team of Trent McFarland, Amene, Miles Brown and Foster also qualified.
• Foster led the squad's effort at the championships, advancing to the mile final and finishing ninth (4:05.32). All five Wolverines earned All-America second-team honors.
