
Wolverines Set for Friday-Night Meet Against No. 6 Michigan State

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 20-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team (3-1, 0-0 Big Ten) opens its Big Ten Conference season Friday (Jan. 17) when it makes the short trip to No. 6 Michigan State for a 6 p.m. meet inside Breslin Center. The meet will be streamed live on B1G+.
Notes
• After two weeks of competition, the Wolverines rank 20th nationally, including being No. 20 on the balance beam and No. 24 on floor exercise. Individually, Carly Bauman ranks 25th on the uneven bars.
• Freshman Jahzara Ranger competed in the all-around for the second straight week and earned her second collegiate title as she clinched Michigan's victory at the Sprouts Farmers Market Quad meet with her 9.900 on floor in the final rotation. Ranger anchored the floor with the meet on the line and came through with her second career score of 9.900 or higher after earning a 9.900 on the beam in the first week of the season.
• Freshman Sophia Diaz captured her first career title with a 9.850 to win on the vault. She also competed on the uneven bars and scored a 9.775 to tie a career best.
• Bauman notched her first title of the 2025 season with a 9.900 on the uneven bars in the second rotation of the evening at Sprouts. The graduate student also came in clutch on the floor in the fifth spot as she earned a 9.875 to place second and keep the Wolverines in the lead with just one routine left in the meet.
• Freshman Sophie Parenti set the tone in both of her events as the leadoff for Michigan at the Sprouts Quad Meet on both beam and floor. She tied for third overall on the beam with a career-best 9.850 and scored a career-high 9.825 on floor to tie for sixth in the final rotation of the evening.
• Junior Paige Thaxton stepped up on the floor for the Maize and Blue as she placed fifth overall with a 9.850.
• Michigan will host four regular season meets this season, including three Big Ten duals starting with Ohio State on Jan. 31. The Wolverines also will host the Big Ten Championships at Crisler Center on March 21-22.
• Michigan closes out its four-week road slate when it travels to Washington for a conference matchup with the Huskies on Saturday (Jan. 25). The meet is set for an 8 p.m. PST start and will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network.
