ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 19-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team used a strong second half of the meet against No. 16 Ohio State to secure a 196.600-196.025 victory Friday night (Jan. 31) at Crisler Center.
The Wolverines recorded matching 49.350s on balance beam and floor exercise to earn their victory over the Buckeyes. Sophomore Kayli Boozer paced Michigan on the beam with a 9.950 and the event title, while Carly Bauman notched a 9.925 on floor in the win and Boozer scored a 9.900. Senior Jacey Vore earned the uneven bars title with a 9.875 on a stuck landing and graduate student Jenna Mulligan tied for the vault title with a 9.850.
Freshman Peyton Davis led off the Wolverines on the vault with a career-best 9.800 before Mulligan paced the Michigan lineup with a 9.850. U-M went into the second rotation trailing Ohio State 48.925-48.800.
Freshman Sophie Parenti put together a solid career-best 9.825 to start Michigan on the uneven bars. After a fall in the second spot, Sophia Diaz answered in the third slot with a 9.850 and Vore built on it with a team-best 9.875. Bauman recorded the second 9.850 of the rotation as the Maize and Blue trailed 97.925-97.900 at the halfway point.
The beam team scored a 49.350 behind a career-best 9.950 from Boozer. Bauman and Jahzara Ranger added to the tally, notching 9.875s, while Mulligan and Vore scored matching 9.825s in the third rotation. The Wolverines topped Ohio State in the third rotation as they went into the final event leading 147.250-146.975.
The Wolverines' floor squad wrapped up the meet as they built on five straight scores, including a career-best 9.850 from Diaz followed by a career-high 9.900 from Boozer and a 9.925 from Bauman to solidify the Michigan win.
U-M will be back in action next Sunday (Feb. 9) when it competes against Nebraska at 12:45 p.m. inside Crisler Center.
