
Hughes Selected for Spengler Cup

DAVOS, Switzerland -- University of Michigan ice hockey forward T.J. Hughes has been selected to participate in the 2025 Spengler Cup, joining the United States Collegiate Select Team, it was announced Thursday (Oct. 16) afternoon.
Hughes is college hockey's active career scoring leader with 127 points, including 48 goals while averaging 1.06 points per game in his three seasons. The Hamilton, Ontario, native currently sits 57th in program history. Hughes, the captain of the Wolverines, has five points through the first four games of the season.
The U.S. Collegiate Select Team will be made up of 25 student-athletes from across NCAA men's ice hockey, with each conference being represented. The 2025 tournament will be the first time a select team representing college hockey has ever competed in the 102-year event.
The competition will run from December 26-31, with the six participating teams. Along with the Selects, host HC Davos, Team Canada, HC Fribourg-Gotteron, Sparta Praha and IFK Helsinki will be taking part in the 2025 edition.
The United States Collegiate Selects will face Team Canada to open Spengler Cup play on Dec. 26. Each team will play a minimum of three contests and a maximum of five during the six-day event.
Hughes is the 14th Wolverine to compete at the Spengler Cup, and the latest since Aaron Palushaj in 2020.
