
Charney, Jones to Head to USTA for NCAA Singles Championship

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's tennis team will send Piper Charney and Lily Jones to the USTA National Campus in Lake Nona, Fla., to compete in the NCAA Singles Championship this week. The event runs from Tuesday (Nov. 18) through Sunday (Nov. 23).
Notes
• For the second straight season, Charney and Jones will represent Michigan in the NCAA Singles Championship. It marks the 10th time that the Wolverines have had multiple players compete in the singles tournament.
• Charney, ranked No. 10 in the preseason fall rankings, received the No. 3 seed after compiling a 7-2 record during the fall. She will open against Emma Kamper of Utah on Tuesday (Nov. 18) at 11:30 a.m.
• Jones enters the tournament ranked No. 26 and will face No. 12 Theadora Rabman of North Carolina in the first round at 9 a.m.
• Charney punched her ticket by reaching the consolation final at the ITA All-America Championships earlier this fall, while Jones earned her singles berth by advancing to the semifinals of the ITA Sectional Championships.
• Jones enters the tournament with 98 career singles wins after going 14-3 this fall. With two more victories, she will become the 12th Wolverine in program history to record 100 singles wins.
• Michigan returns to the USTA National Campus for the first time since the 2023 NCAA Tournament, when the Wolverines faced Georgia in the quarterfinals.
• The singles and doubles championships are being contested in the fall for the second consecutive season as part of a two-year pilot program.
• The NCAA Singles Championship marks the conclusion of the fall season. U-M will resume competition by hosting the Michigan Invitational at the Varsity Tennis Center in January.
