COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The No. 14-ranked University of Michigan men's tennis team fell 5-0 at No. 3 Ohio State in non-conference action on Wednesday (Feb. 26) at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center.
No. 70-ranked Benjamin Kittay and Patorn Hanchaikul won at No. 1 doubles. The pair knocked off Bryce Nakashima and Preston Stearns 6-3. The duo improve to 5-2Â in dual doubles and 2-1 at No. 1 doubles. With Bjorn Swenson and Mert Oral losing at No. 3 doubles, the point came down to No. 2 between Alex Cairo and Will Cooksey versus Brandon Caprico and Nikita Filin. The match went into a tiebreaker, with the Buckeye duo outlasting the Wolverines 7-6 (9).
Swenson had his two-match singles win streak snapped with 6-1, 6-3 losses to No. 64 Jack Anthrop at No. 3 singles. Nicholas Steiglehner, Oral and Hanchaikul also lost their matches in straight sets as OSU claimed the 5-0 decision.
Michigan will play in its final non-conference dual on Friday (Feb. 28) when it hosts Western Michigan in the first of a three-match homestand. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Varsity Tennis Center, and admission is free.
