U-M Hangs On Late Against Indiana to Secure 10th Big Ten Victory

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The University of Michigan men's basketball team held off an 18-point second-half comeback to defeat Indiana by three in Dusty May's homecoming on Saturday (Feb. 8) at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.
Leaders and Best
Danny Wolf dropped 20 points, nine rebounds, and five assists to lead the Wolverines. Tre Donaldson scored 14 of his 18 points in the first half and added two steals. Vladislav Goldin contributed 18 points and eight rebounds. No other Michigan player scored more than four points.
Second Half
Donaldson got Michigan (18-5, 10-2 Big Ten) going after halftime, adding to his 14 first-half points with a fast-break jumper. Indiana (14-10, 5-8 Big Ten) traded baskets with Michigan, which maintained a double-digit lead until eight consecutive Hoosier points cut it to nine, 49-40, with 14:31 remaining.
The Wolverines committed four early turnovers and five fouls before the halfway point, allowing Indiana to cut the lead to one on an 8-0 run with nine minutes left. Six unanswered Michigan points during a three-minute Hoosier scoring drought gave U-M a seven-point advantage at 6:13.
Michigan shot 2-for-11 during a three-minute scoring drought, allowing Indiana to tie the game at 59 with four minutes left. A Goldin dunk sparked a U-M offensive push, leading to a Wolf and-one basket that put Michigan ahead by five with 1:25 remaining. Indiana made a layup but missed a three-pointer on its next possession, giving the Wolverines a three-point lead and the ball with 20 seconds left. Michigan sank four free throws to close out the game before Indiana made a last-second three-pointer, sealing a 70-67 win.
First Half
Donaldson's hot start — scoring eight of Michigan's first nine points — gave the Wolverines a 14-5 lead with 15 minutes left, forcing Indiana to take an early timeout. The Hoosiers responded with an 11-0 run to tie the game at 16 with 11:18 remaining.
A 16-1 Michigan run on 4-for-5 shooting put the Wolverines up 35-19 with 5:53 left, capped by Donaldson's 12th point in the first 15 minutes. U-M continued to dominate, scoring six unanswered points over two minutes to take an 18-point lead with a minute remaining. Michigan entered halftime up 16.
Michigan committed only four turnovers in the first half, shooting 14-for-27 (51.9 percent) from the field, compared to Indiana's 12-for-34 (35.3 percent). The Wolverines made 10 of 11 free throws and held Indiana to just one player with more than five points.

Michigan returns home to face Purdue on Tuesday (Feb. 11). Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and will stream live on Peacock.
