
Wolverines to Head to Tampa for USF Alumni Invitational in Outdoor Opener

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's track and field team is set to open its outdoor season in Tampa, Fla., at the USF Alumni Invitational on Friday and Saturday (March 21-22) at USF Track and Field Stadium. Friday (March 21) action will begin with the javelin throw at 10 a.m., while the high jump will open Saturday (March 22) at 11 a.m.
Notes
• The 2024 outdoor season opened with a bang, as Tom Brady's 10,000-meter run time of 28:21.89 broke the previous program record of 28:25.94 set by Bill Donakowski in 1978.
• U-M finished fourth at the 2024 Big Ten Outdoor Championships, winning three individual titles and six medals. Brady (10,000-meter run, 29:19.27), Dubem Amene (400-meter dash, 45.92), and Trent McFarland (1,500-meter run, 3:43.59) all took home gold while Nick Foster (1,500-meter run, 3:43.64) and Luke Venhuizen (5,000-meter run, 13:58.27) won silver. Caleb Jarema (3,000-meter steeplechase, 8:45.42) won bronze.
• Thirteen Wolverines qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary Round, with five advancing to the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
• At NCAAs, Zane Forist's discus throw finish of 14th (57.38 meters/188 feet, 3 inches) and Brady's 15th-place finish in the 10,000-meter (28:44.35) led the team's effort.
• Jake Wall (long jump), Foster (1,500-meter run), and Jarema (3,000-meter steeplechase) also competed at the NCAA Championships.
• McFarland, Venhuizen, Jarema, Wall, and Forist will return to the lineup, in addition to Miles Brown (distance), Camden Law (distance), Jacob Koerner (sprints), and Tianhao Wei (jumps).
• In the offseason, eight freshmen were added to the squad along with graduate transfers John McNeil (jumps) and Jakob Kunzer (sprints).
