ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan baseball team defeated Mount St. Mary's 3-1 in a pitchers' duel on Saturday afternoon (April 12) -- the program's 5,000th game -- at the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium.

Kurt Barr(4-2) pitched eight innings of one-run baseball and allowed six hits -- with two coming in the second inning being the most he gave up in a frame -- while striking out seven. Will Rogers tossed a scoreless ninth to secure his sixth save. The U-M offense tallied just four hits, with Cole Caruso reaching base three times on one hit and two walks. Colby Turner added an insurance home run in the sixth inning.

The Wolverines (21-14) got off to a lead in the first inning with a leadoff double from Benny Casillas, who moved to third on a sacrifice bunt from AJ Rausch and scored on a Mitch Voit sac fly. U-M added another in the second. Caruso led off the frame with a single and moved around the bases on a groundout, a Joe Longo, single and a sac bunt from Noah Miller.

Mount St. Mary's (14-19) got the run back in the third with a leadoff single and two-out double, but Barr struck out the side and Michigan led 2-1.

Turner hit his fifth home run of the season to left field in the bottom of the inning to push the Wolverine lead to 3-1.

Barr allowed just one more baserunner over his final two innings and struck out four during the span. Rogers took the mound for the ninth and allowed a two-out single but forced a popout to clinch the series win.

Michigan will return to action on Sunday (April 13) at 1 p.m. for the series finale against Mount St. Mary's. Action from Ray Fisher Stadium will be streamed live on B1G+.
