
Michigan Set to Host NCAA Championships

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 2-ranked University of Michigan men's gymnastics team (12-3, 3-1) will look to win its first NCAA title since 2014 when it hosts the 2025 NCAA Championships on Friday and Saturday (April 18-19) at Crisler Center. The Wolverines will compete in the second of two qualifying sessions on Friday at 7 p.m. If qualified, U-M will advance to the team finals on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
Both qualifying sessions will be streamed on ESPN+, with Saturday's final televised live on ESPN2.
Notes
• Michigan will compete in the second qualifying session on Friday (April 18) at 7 p.m. alongside No. 3 Stanford, No. 6 Illinois, No. 7 Ohio State, No. 10 Navy and No. 11 Army. The top three teams from each session will advance to Saturday's finals, where team and individual champions will be crowned.
• The Wolverines are coming off their fifth consecutive and 22nd overall Big Ten title, earned April 5. Fred Richard (all-around) and Evgeny Siminiuc (high bar) won individual titles, while Paul Juda (all-around), David Wolma (vault), Siminiuc (parallel bars), Zach Granados (pommel horse), Solen Chiodi (vault) and Pierce Wolfgang (high bar) also medaled.
• Richard, who claimed his third straight all-around crown, was named Gymnast of the Championships. Head coach Yuan Xiao was named Big Ten Coach of the Year. Juda, Richard, and Siminiuc earned All-Big Ten first team honors, while Chiodi, Granados and Siminiuc were named to the second team. Chiodi and Aaronson Mansberger were selected to the All-Freshman Team.
• U-M sat in third after the first rotation of the Big Ten final but surged ahead with a season-high 55.250 on pommel horse behind Richard's 14.100 and Mansberger's 14.700. The Wolverines pulled away after a strong vault rotation and sealed the title with standout routines on parallel bars and high bar, finishing with a 330.750, the team's second-highest score of the season, and a 6.900-point margin over second-place Penn State (323.850).
• Michigan leads the nation on parallel bars (55.625) and ranks second on high bar (54.538), just 0.237 behind Oklahoma. Richard leads the NCAA on both parallel bars (14.375) and high bar (14.150). Logan McKeown is third nationally on parallel bars (14.150), while Siminiuc ranks fifth (14.050) on parallel bars and fourth (13.788) on high bar.
• U-M seeks its first NCAA title since 2014, which was the last time it hosted. The Wolverines have placed in the top three at nationals each of the past four seasons and were runner-up the last two years. At the 2024 NCAA Championships, Michigan placed second (419.689) behind Stanford (425.956). Juda won the floor exercise and was second on vault with a 15.133 on both routines. Richard earned silver in the all-around (83.999) and on rings (14.400), while Javier Alfonso took third on rings (14.333). Six Wolverines collected a combined 11 All-America honors.
