ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 3-ranked University of Michigan men's gymnastics team (8-3) will compete for its fifth straight and 22nd overall Big Ten title when they host the Big Ten Championships on Friday and Saturday (April 4-5) at Crisler Center. Notes
• In addition to taking the team title at the 2024 Big Ten Championship, a trio of Wolverines claimed individual titles in Fred Richard (all-around), Landen Blixt (floor exercise), and Crew Bold (parallel bars). With 21 championship titles in program history, the Maize and Blue trails only Illinois (28) in total team titles. U-M's Big Ten championship streak is its longest since winning six straight from 1961-66.
• The Big Ten title race is tight, with Michigan, Nebraska, Penn State, Ohio State, and Illinois at Nos. 3-7, respectively, in the Road to Nationals rankings. Just 4.383 points separate Michigan's average score (325.533) and Illinois' average score (321.150).
• Michigan split the regular-season crown with Penn State, clinching a share of the title with a 335.950-335.200 victory over Nebraska on March 21. Richard picked up a pair of event titles on the parallel bars and high bar, while Charlie Larson won the floor exercise title and Aaronson Mansberger won the pommel horse title.
• U-M led after a dominant showing on floor, but the Huskers began to close the gap after mistakes on the pommel horse leadoff and pulled ahead with an impressive rotation on still rings. Strong performances from Richard (14.950) and Logan McKeown (13.850) on the parallel bars pulled the Wolverines ahead going into the final rotation before sealing the win on high bar to secure the highest team score in the nation.
• Larson has won five floor exercise titles this season and posted the highest score in the nation against the Huskers. The sophomore transfer ranks second in the NCAA with an average of 14.233, just 0.034 points behind nation-leading Kameron Nelson of Ohio State.
• Richard sits in the top 10 of three events, coming in ninth on floor (13.817), first on parallel bars (14.333) and first on high bar (14.167). The junior's parallel bars score of 14.950 at Nebraska and high bar score of 14.700 against Illinois are the best in the nation.
• Michigan leads the NCAA on the parallel bars (55.617) and high bar (54.983) and sits second on floor (54.550).
