
Michigan to Host Illinois, Northwestern on Senior Day

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 23-ranked University of Michigan men's tennis team (12-8, 6-2 Big Ten) will close out its regular-season home slate this weekend at the Varsity Tennis Center. The Wolverines will host No. 24-ranked Illinois (12-6, 5-2 Big Ten) at 6 p.m. Friday (April 4) before taking on Northwestern (11-11, 3-4 Big Ten) at noon on Sunday (April 6).
• Michigan will recognize seniors Will Cooksey, Patorn Hanchaikul and Gavin Young in a pre-match ceremony on Sunday. The trio has combined for an 81-30 overall record and a 30-5 mark in Big Ten play across their four seasons in Ann Arbor.
• Three Wolverines are ranked in singles play in the latest ITA rankings released Tuesday (April 1). Cooksey made his season debut at No. 83, while Young and Benjamin Kittay came in at No. 79 and No. 82, respectively. Kittay and Young are also ranked No. 14 in doubles.
• Michigan enters the weekend ranked No. 23 nationally and tied for third in the Big Ten standings at 6-2, alongside Michigan State. Last weekend, the Wolverines nearly upset No. 3 Ohio State in a 4-3 loss before blanking Penn State, 4-0.
• Illinois defeated Michigan earlier this season in a non-conference dual (Feb. 10) in Champaign, Ill., snapping a four-match win streak by U-M in the series. The Wolverines hold a 70-45-2 all-time advantage. The Illini are 5-2 in Big Ten play and have won three straight matches. They feature two ranked singles players in Kenta Miyoshi (No. 16) and William Mroz (No. 64).
• The Wolverines have won 10 straight matches against Northwestern and own a 79-28-1 edge in the all-time series. The Wildcats come to Ann Arbor in eighth place in the Big Ten standings at 3-4.
• Michigan has won the doubles point in three consecutive matches and holds a 6-4 record when earning the early lead. The team is also 5-4 when dropping the doubles point. Young and Bjorn Swenson are 4-0 together in dual action and 6-0 overall as a pair this season.
• Swenson is riding a five-match win streak in singles, improving to 11-7 in dual play with a 6-2 record in Big Ten matches. His straight-set win over Penn State on Sunday marked the 40th singles victory of his Michigan career.
• Cooksey notched his first ranked win of the season on Friday with a 7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-3 victory over No. 16 Aidan Kim of Ohio State. The senior is 19-7 overall with a 5-1 Big Ten mark and has won three straight matches.
