ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan baseball team (23-17) will welcome Bowling Green (25-13) to the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium, on Tuesday (April 22) for a midweek contest at 4 p.m. The game will stream live on B1G+. Â
Notes
• Michigan entered the previous weekend on a seven-game winning streak but was swept in a conference series by the Iowa Hawkeyes. The first two games were decided by one run, and the series finale was tied heading into the ninth inning before the Hawkeyes took the lead.
• Benny Casillas leads the Wolverines with a .415 batting average and ranks second in the Big Ten conference. Casillas is also second in the Big Ten in on-base percentage, getting on base over half the time. He has 59 hits this season, which matches his season total from his previous season at LMU, but reached it in 12 fewer starts. Casillas led off the series finale with a home run for his first as a Wolverine and added six more hits over the four-game week with five runs.
• Mitch Voit went 7-for-15 over the four-game week with a home run on Saturday (April 19) for his first since April 1. Voit leads the team in OPS at 1.138, ranking ninth in the Big Ten conference. He also leads U-M in runs and RBIs and a .641 slugging percentage. Voit is just seven bases away from 100 total for the season after 135 last season.
• Jeter Ybarra homered twice over the previous four games, including in the most recent contest on Sunday (April 20). After no home runs in his first 25 games, he has six over the last 15 games, with five home runs across the previous 10. On the season, Ybarra has a .284 batting average with a .853 OPS and has appeared in all 40 contests this season.
• Noah Miller saw action in three of the four games with two starts behind the plate. He tallied four hits in eight at-bats with two doubles. Miller had a single-game career high of three RBIs on Friday (April 18) against the Hawkeyes as part of a two-hit day. He is up to a .271 batting average with five doubles on 13 hits. Miller has caught three runners stealing over the last 10 games.
• Cole Caruso leads Michigan in home runs with nine and is fourth in batting average at .295. He holds a .949 OPS, ranking third on the team with 19 extra-base hits and 18 walks. He tallied just two hits over the past four games, but drew five walks to reach base seven times. Caruso is one of three players to play in every game this season, along with Ybarra and Voit, and has played in 198 career Division I games.
• Cade Connolly has started the past two midweek contests against Oakland and Toledo. Over those two games, he pitched 10 innings, allowing five hits and no runs -- while striking out 13 batters. He set career highs in innings pitched and strikeouts last Tuesday (April 15) against Toledo.
• Bowling Green is 25-13 but lost the most recent weekend series to Ball State. The two teams combined for 79 runs across the three games. Bowling Green lost a series to Western Michigan and swept Akron earlier in the season, both of whom U-M has played in midweek contests. All-time, Michigan is 47-15-1 with the Wolverines winning the last six -- with the most recent contest coming in 2019, a 10-5 Michigan win.
