
Diaz Set for Fort Worth to Compete in NCAA Individual Championships

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's gymnastics team will send freshman Sophia Diaz to Fort Worth, Texas, to compete in the NCAA Championships on Thursday (April 17) to vie for an individual national title.
The Clarksville, Md. native, qualified for the national championship on vault after scoring a 9.950 with a stuck landing at the NCAA Regional.
This season, Diaz was named second-team All-Big Ten and earned a spot on the All-Freshman team as she competed on vault, uneven bars and floor. Diaz won six event titles in her first season, including three on vault, two on uneven bars and one on floor. The freshman notched eight scores of 9.900 or better as she recorded career-high 9.900s on both uneven bars and floor, while scoring a career-best 9.950 on vault.
Diaz will rotate with UCLA in the second session of the NCAA Championships starting at 8 p.m. CT.
