
Michigan Set to Host Top-Ranked Oklahoma on Saturday

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 5-ranked University of Michigan men's gymnastics team (5-0) will host No. 1 Oklahoma (4-0) at 2 p.m. on Saturday (Jan. 24) at Cliff Keen Arena for its first dual meet of the season. The meet will be streamed live on B1G+.
Notes
• U-M earned a first-place finish at the Ohio State Open last Sunday (Jan. 18) with a score of 315.800, topping Ohio State (311.300), No. 7 Greenville (307.450) and Illinois (307.100) at the Covelli Center.
• Michigan led after the second rotation, but low scores on parallel bars and high bar dropped the Wolverines into third place after four rotations. Falls from Illinois and Ohio State allowed U-M to move back into second heading into the final rotation. A pair of scores over 14.000 for Michigan, along with another Buckeye fall on high bar, moved the Wolverines into the lead and sealed the victory.
• Sophomore Aaronson Mansberger scored a career-high 14.900 on the pommel horse as the anchor to win the event title, while Landen Blixt placed second with a career-high 14.100. Mansberger was named Big Ten Specialist of the Week and CGA Specialist of the Week for his performance. Akshay Puri tied for first on still rings with a 13.400 and Solen Chiodi finished third in the all-around (76.300), coming just 0.100 points shy of his career high.
• U-M comes in at No. 2 on the pommel horse, scoring a season-high 56.050 at the Ohio State Open. The score is 5.050 points higher than the U-M's season-opening score (51.000). Michigan is ranked No. 4 on floor (52.200), No. 5 on still rings (51.900), No. 5 on vault (54.700), No. 10 on parallel bars (50.400) and No. 10 on high bar (49.375).
• Chiodi comes in at No. 9 on floor (13.525) and in the all-around (76.350). Mansberger posted an NCAA-leading 14.900 on the pommel horse at the Ohio State Open to rank second in the NCAA and first in the Big Ten with an average score of 14.125. Puri is tied for sixth in the nation on still rings with an average of 13.400, while Robert Noll is just 0.050 points shy of tying for 10th (13.250).
• The Maize and Blue is undefeated at Cliff Keen Arena since 2019, with Michigan last losing at home to Iowa (408.000-408.250) on March 9, 2019.
• Oklahoma finished first of five at the Rocky Mountain Open on Jan. 17 in its season opener, scoring an NCAA-leading 323.950 to top Stanford (320.750), Nebraska (315.500) and Air Force (302.100).
• OU is ranked first on pommel horse (55.200) and first on parallel bars (54.900), tied for first on high bar (53.150), second on still rings (52.850) and floor (53.650) and ninth on vault (54.200).
• The Sooners' Sasha Bogonosiuk leads the nation in the all-around (79.650), Nathan Roman leads the nation on parallel bars (14.500) and Kelton Christiansen leads the nation on high bar (13.850).
• Michigan will get a break before hitting the road to face Illinois at noon CT on Saturday, Feb. 7, in its conference opener. The meet will be streamed live on B1G+.
