MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The No. 10-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team remained perfect in Flip for Chip Meets as it defeated No. 24 Iowa 196.775-195.600 on Saturday (Jan. 24) at Crisler Center.
Sophomore Sophia Diaz won her first vault title of the season with a 9.900 and completed the trifecta with 9.900s on uneven bars and floor exercise, both good for second-place finishes. Junior Kayli Boozer won her third straight balance beam title with a 9.900, while Carly Bauman captured the floor title with a 9.950.
Graduate student Reyna Guggino stuck her vault in the third spot in the first rotation for a 9.875 and Diaz closed out the rotation with a 9.900 for the title as U-M led the Hawkeyes 49.100-48.575 after one complete rotation.
Senior Lily Clapper and sophomores Sophie Parenti and Diaz put on a clinic in the second rotation as the trio stuck their landings on uneven bars. Diaz notched her second 9.900 of the meet to place second overall, while Clapper and Bauman tied for third with 9.850s. Michigan led the way midway through the competition with a running score of 98.850, while Iowa headed into the third rotation with a score of 97.600.
Boozer paced the Wolverines on beam for the third time in as many weeks and earned her third straight title with a 9.900, while Bauman tied for second with a 9.875. Sophomore Jahzara Ranger also had a strong performance on beam, placing fourth overall. Michigan went into the fourth and final rotation with a 147.425-146.700 lead over the Hawkeyes.
Sophomore Audrey Sanger and Parenti each earned a 9.825 on floor, while Diaz continued her night by tying her career high on floor with a 9.900. Bauman followed it up with a 9.950 to capture the title as U-M earned the home victory over Iowa.
Michigan will host No. 21 Michigan State on Sunday (Feb. 1) at 3:45 p.m. inside Crisler Center. The meet is set to be broadcast live on Big Ten Network.
