Notes
• The Wolverines share the third spot in the Big Ten standings with Illinois with a 4-2 conference record. Michigan's only losses have come against the nation's top two teams -- No. 1 Penn State and No. 2 Ohio State.
• The Wolverines have eight wrestlers ranked nationally in their respective weight classes, including five in the top 15 according to InterMat: No. 13 Lachlan McNeil (149 pounds), No. 13 Cameron Catrabone (157), No. 11 Beau Mantanona (174), No. 7 Brock Mantanona (184) and No. 5 Taye Ghadiali (Hwt).
• Iowa is 10-5 this season and 3-3 in Big Ten duals after falling to Ohio State (24-9, Feb. 6) and defeating Michigan State (40-6, Feb. 8) on the road last weekend. Nine Hawkeyes are ranked nationally by InterMat, including six in the top 10, most notably No. 2 Angelo Ferrari (184), No. 3 Michael Caliendo (165) and No. 3 Patrick Kennedy (174). Michigan trails Iowa 34-27-1 in the all-time series dating back to 1924. Michigan claimed the most recent head-to-head matchup with a 24-11 win two seasons ago in Ann Arbor.
• Wisconsin owns an 11-4 record this season and is 3-4 in Big Ten duals, most recently falling 30-9 to Indiana last Saturday (Feb. 7) in Madison. The Badgers have seven nationally ranked wrestlers, most notably No. 9 Braxton Amos (Hwt). Michigan owns a 30-25-1 advantage in the all-time series with the Badgers dating back to 1924 and has won five of the last eight meetings, including a 27-6 victory in the most recent meeting in 2023 in Ann Arbor.
• Graduate student heavyweight Ghadiali secured his eighth ranked victory of the season with a 5-1 decision against Penn State's No. 12 Cole Mirasola on Feb. 6. He earned back-to-back ranked wins after defeating Ohio State's No. 3 Nick Feldman 4-1 in overtime the previous weekend. He is 3-1 in college against Feldman, including an 8-3 decision in the 2024 NWCA All-Star Classic. With the wins, Ghadiali moved back up to No. 5 in the latest heavyweight rankings. Ghadiali leads the team with a 17-2 record and boasts bonus points in 11 of his wins -- one fall, seven technical falls and three major decisions.
• Redshirt freshman Brock Mantanona (184) won a late scramble en route to a 4-1 decision against Ohio State's No. 7 Dylan Fishback on Feb. 1. It was his sixth ranked win of the season and his second over a top-10 opponent, adding to a 10-8 decision against Nebraska's sixth-ranked Silas Allred at the National Duals. Mantanona is 13-4 on the season with eight bonus wins, including his first pin against Northwestern's J.D. Perez, and climbed to No. 7 -- his highest ranking to date -- at 184 pounds in InterMat's latest ranking.
• Redshirt freshman Beau Mantanona is 15-5 with nine bonus wins and four falls, including a wrestleback pin against Iowa State's No. 8 MJ Gaitan at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. He owns two wins over top-10 opponents this season -- Rutgers' No. 10 Lenny Pinto was the other -- and two one-score losses to top-five opponents in Kharchla and Nebraska's No. 4 Christopher Minto (4-1 SV).
• The Mantanona brothers have combined for a 27-9 record and 17 bonus wins at back-to-back weights in the Wolverine lineup.
• Redshirt freshman Cameron Catrabone (157) leads the Wolverines with six pins on the season and has scored bonus points in six of his last eight matches with a 13-5 overall record. Catrabone is 5-1 in Big Ten competition after suffering his first loss in a 12-10 decision to Penn State's No. 4 PJ Duke last weekend. He was the first wrestler this season to take down Duke, scoring on takedowns in the first and third periods -- briefly holding a late lead after the latter. Catrabone's father, three-time Michigan All-American Jeff Catrabone (1995-98), graduated with U-M's career pins record -- and now ranks second -- with 55.
• Graduate students McNeil and Dylan Ragusin are inching closer to the 100-win milestone. McNeil owns a 93-29 career record, including an 11-4 mark this season at Michigan, while Ragusin is 91-34 over his six seasons in Ann Arbor.
• Eight Wolverines have made debuts in the U-M starting lineup this season, most recently freshman Cooper Hilton, who earned an 11-5 decision against Northwestern's August Hibler in his only dual appearance, and redshirt freshman Justin Gates, who bumped up to 165 pounds after Dylan Gilcher's season-ending injury. The other six were victorious in U-M's dual opener against VMI (Nov. 9). Freshmen Gauge Botero and Eren Sement made their collegiate debuts at 133 and 141 pounds, respectively, while graduate students Diego Sotelo (125), McNeil (149) and Ghadiali (Hwt) all made their official Michigan debuts. Walters, who opened his college career with back-to-back redshirts after coming in with an injury, made his long-awaited varsity debut at 197 pounds.
