ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's track and field team set a pair of records on Friday (Feb. 13), competing in the Heartland Invitational at the Fall Creek Pavilion in Indianapolis, Ind., and the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center in Boston.

In the mile run open section, Henry Dixon earned a second-place finish with a personal-best time of 3:56.81. The time is No. 7 on the program performers list and sets the freshman mile run record.
Brendan Herger finished 14th in the mile run invite section, posting a personal-best 3:54.56 to move up to No. 3 on the program performers list. Riley Flemington placed 46th with a time of 4:02.96 and Aiden Sullivan placed 54th with a time of 4:06.80.
Camden Law was the second Wolverine to set a record, finishing fourth in the 800-meter run with a new program standard of 1:47.01. John O'Reilly finished 22nd (1:48.35) and Miles Brown finished 31st (1:49.37).
Trent McFarland set a new personal-best time of 7:50.75 in the 3,000-meter run invite section, earning a 14th-place finish and the No. 2 mark on the program performers list. In the 3,000-meter run open section, Luke Venhuizen also logged a personal-best time (7:58.63) to finish 28th.
In the 5,000-meter run, Nathan Lopez finished 19th in a personal-best 13:43.93, the No. 4 time on the program performers list. Luke Alverson placed 40th (13:54.48) while Caleb Jarema posted a personal-best time of 13:54.74 to finish 42nd.
Heartland Invitational
Jake Machiniak (6.81 seconds) and Amit Rutman (6.92) advanced to the 60-meter dash finals, where Machiniak finished fifth with a time of 6.81 and Rutman finished seventh with a time of 6.89. Machiniak's time was a personal best.
A pair of Wolverines finished in the top 10 of the 400-meter dash, with Will Barhite finishing third (47.97) and Nick Butler-Simpson finishing ninth (48.67). Caleb Root placed 11th with a time of 48.76.
Liam Kinney and Cole Sheldon both cleared 4.94 meters (16 feet, 2.5 inches) in the pole vault to finish fifth and sixth, respectively, while Neil Howard cleared 4.79m (15-8.5) to finish eighth.
In the long jump, Tyler Baker placed sixth with a mark of 6.71m (22-0.25) to come 0.18 meters shy of his personal best.
Michigan will close out the weekend on Saturday (Feb. 14) at the Heartland Invitational. Track events will begin at 1:05 p.m. with the 200-meter dash, and field events will begin with the shot put at 1:50 p.m.
